Activities

This week, our class did mulching activities on transplanted plants. This activity was taught by the farm staff, Mr. Naim. Mr. Naim taught and told about the benefits of mulching.

Mulching is generally used to save water, suppress weeds and improve the soil around plants but it also gives your garden a neat, tidy appearance and can reduce the amount of time spent on tasks such as watering and weeding.

BENEFIT OF MULCHING

-Limits weed growth by preventing light from reaching the soil surface.

-Limits water loss from the soil surface, maintaining soil moisture.

- Decreases soil temperatures and keeps it cooler on hot days and warmer on cold nights.

-Covers and protects the soil by reducing soil compaction and erosion.

In addition, we water the trees. This can refresh the plants and the soil. This activity is done in the morning and evening.

CHALLENGES

The challenge is when handling the machete to take the sharp palm fronds and it is mandatory to wear gloves.

REFLECTION

For this week I learn that for mulching we need a suitable crop to use for mulching and handling a machete need a extra cautious step when I need to use. It is because it's important to put safety first on top of all thing to avoid injury.

THAT'S ALL FOR ME.WAITING AND SEE FOR NEXT WEEKS.
